BCA Rules

The BOS! Belgian Castles & Fortresses Award (BCA) follows the official World Castles Award (WCA) rules and uses the official WCA numbering list for all Belgian castles and fortresses.

Chaser Awards

Work the following number of different Belgian Castle or Fortress references listed in the official WCA database:

10 • 25 • 50 • 75 • 100 • 200 • 300 • 400 • 500 • 750 • 1,000 • 1,500 • 2,000 • 2,500 • and beyond

Digital awards can be downloaded free of charge through the award system.

For achieving the following milestones, an optional wooden award plaque is available:

  • 500 References
  • 1,000 References
  • 1,500 References
  • 2,000 References
  • 2,500 References

Activator Awards

Activate the following number of different Belgian Castle or Fortress references listed in the official WCA database:

10 • 25 • 50 • 75 • 100 • 200 • 300 • 400 • 500 • 750 • 1,000 • and beyond

FREE Wooden Plaques

Activators who reach the following milestones are entitled to a FREE wooden award plaque:

  • 250 References
  • 500 References
  • 750 References
  • 1,000 References

Activation Rules

To qualify as a valid BCA activation:

  • The activation must take place within a 1 km radius of the castle or fortress reference.
  • The official activation area can be verified using the BOS! Maps.
  • A single activation may qualify for multiple (unlimited) WCA/BCA references, provided all references fall within the permitted activation zone.
  • A minimum of 50 QSOs is required for an activation to count towards Activator Awards.
  • The activation remains fully valid for Chasers, even if the activator does not reach the required 50 QSOs.

Log Submission

Activators should:

  • Upload their activation log directly on this website, via the My Account page, for BCA credits.
  • Upload the same log to WCA for WCA credits.
  • Send an activation confirmation together with one or more photographs of the activation site to info@belgiumoutdoorshack.be, or share the activation on the BOS! Facebook page.

Adding New BCA/WCA References

The BCA reference list is continually expanding, and we recognize that not every Belgian castle or fortress has been included yet.

If you discover a castle or fortress that is not currently listed, please contact the BCA team. We will review your proposal and may ask for additional information such as:

  • Location
  • GPS coordinates
  • Photographs
  • Historical information
  • Website links
  • Any other relevant documentation

Each submission is carefully evaluated before a final decision is made.

To simplify administration, new BCA/WCA references are added twice per year, on:

  • 1 January
  • 1 July

A new reference becomes valid from the date it is officially published on the BCA website.
